CDMX, October 1st, 2019. ALTÁN Redes, the Mexican company responsible for the deployment and operation of Red Compartida -the country’s 4.5G-LTE mobile broadband Network- announces the beginning of the Social Coverage deployment to reach areas of digital exclusion in Mexico, mainly concentrated in localities of less than 250 inhabitants.

The deployment of ALTÁN’s Social Coverage will allow to cover at the end of 2021 almost 100,000 localities of less than 250 inhabitants, as well as more than 20,000 localities of less than 5,000 inhabitants. ALTÁN begins this coverage today with the construction of more than 100 sites –of more than 2,600 for the planned Social Coverage- in municipalities such as Simojovel, Chiapas; Mártir de Cuilapan, Guerrero; Aquixtla, Puebla; Huajuapan de León, Oaxaca, among others.

The Social Coverage Plan will be deployed over the next two years and, together with the rest of the Red Compartida deployment, it will cover around 80 million Mexicans by the end of 2021.

This Social Coverage Plan will be a valuable instrument -to reduce the digital divide in Mexico by providing broadband access to the Internet, both mobile and fixed, and to all its related services, with a high level of quality at an affordable cost.
