Altán Redes appoints Bernardo Sepúlveda Amor as Chairman of its Board of Directors

Mexico City, September 28^th, 2017. Altán Redes, S.A.P.I. de C.V., (“Altán”) Mexican company incorporated by the winning consortium of the international bid for Red Compartida, today appointed Bernardo Sepúlveda Amor as independent member of the Board and Chairman of its Board of Directors. Until yesterday, the position was held by Mr. Eugenio Galdón, who will remain a member of the Board, Executive Vice President, and Chairman of the Delegate Committee of Altán. Eugenio Galdón performed temporarily the functions as Chairman of the Board, in accordance with the shareholders of Altán, until the appointment of the permanent Chairman is concluded.

The Company’s shareholders welcomed Mr. Sepúlveda and thanked Mr. Galdón for the great work he performed as acting Chairman of Altán during these months.

Regarding the appointment, Mr. Sepúlveda stated: “I thank all of Altán’s shareholders and, particularly, Eugenio Galdón for inviting me to strengthen Altán’s project. I feel grateful to be linked to a company that, when implementing Red Compartida in Mexico, will provide a highly favorable social impact for the Mexican society”.

Mr. Galdón said: “Since we incorporated Altán, we had planned to incorporate a Mexican citizen of great experience and respect to be part of our Board of Directors, and to preside over the company. For us, it is an honor to receive Bernardo Sepúlveda as Chairman of the Board. We know that his long professional career will support us to develop the most transformational technological and telecommunications project in Mexico today.”

The assigned responsibilities to Mr. Sepúlveda as Chairman of the Board of Directors include, among others, those of the chairmanship of the Board of Directors and of the Shareholders’ Meetings, together with that of holding Altán’s maximum institutional representation in the face of every public and social organization, as well as in front of private entities, encouraging the coordination and collaboration between the shareholders of Altán.

In addition, Altán’s Board of Directors appointed today Mr. Javier Salgado as Chief Executive Officer of Altán, replacing Mr. Joaquin Coronado, who held the post of acting CEO until the person who would hold that position was appointed permanently. Joaquín Coronado has been appointed Executive Member of the Board for the Company, a position from which he will supervise the progress of the Board of Directors and the Delegate Committee.

Altán intends to build and operate Red Compartida, whose purpose is to significantly expand the access to the Mexican population of voice and data services, including rural areas without previous coverage. Red Compartida will bring powerful social and economic benefits, by implementing a connectivity system, in practically the whole country, which will have a higher quality and speed at a lower cost. In addition to promoting competition and new digital services, Red Compartida will benefit public schools, hospitals and public security services, as well as other entities that require an optimal connection to state-of-the-art digital services.

About Bernardo Sepúlveda

Lawyer and Mexican diplomat, he has focused his professional activity in the resolution of controversies. He is the of counsel of the law firm Creel, García Cuéllar, Aiza y Enríquez, S.C., where he heads the international arbitration area. For nine years he was judge of the International Court of Justice and vice president of that judicial organ of the United Nations. He has been Minister of Foreign Affairs, ambassador of Mexico in Washington and in London, member of the Commission of International Law of the UN. At SHCP he was Director General of International Financial Affairs. He was attorney general of the ICA Group and a member of its Board of Directors. He was granted a “Prince of Asturias” Award. In the academic field, he has been professor in national and foreign institutions, published books and articles on foreign policy, international economic relations, foreign trade, foreign investment and international law.

About Eugenio Galdón

Economist from the University of Leuven (Belgium), and Engineer and State Economist (Spain). He is president of Grupo Multitel, a company that brings together its business initiatives mainly in technology and infrastructure. He is a member of the Advisory Board of the Instituto de Empresa and the Norman Foster Foundation. He has been professor of Public Finance at the Autonomous University of Madrid. In the public sector, he was advisor to President Adolfo Suárez and director of President Calvo Sotelo’s Cabinet. In the private sector, he was the first executive of Cadena SER, and the audiovisual division of PRISA. In 1994 he founded ONO, the leading broadband company in Spain, of which he was president, and a shareholder until its acquisition in 2014 by Vodafone.

About Joaquín Coronado

Industrial Engineer with a specialty in Chemistry by the University of Sevilla (Spain), holds an MBA from the University of San Telmo (Spain) and has a long history and experience in management services, technology and telecommunications companies. He is Managing Director of Podo, an energy marketer, of which he is co-founder. He is CEO of BRUC Management, an infrastructure company, as well as a partner in Multitel, leading several investment projects in telecommunications infrastructure. Partner of PwC Spain in charge of Consulting, Strategy, Transactions and Technology services. He was also COO at ONO, the leading operator of broadband providing quad play services (high speed internet, fixed and mobile telephony, and pay television) in Spain. Other executive experiences include being Managing Director of EDP, Managing Director of HC Energía, and CEO of Abengoa Bioenergy.

About Javier Salgado

Industrial Engineer from the Universidad Pontificia de Comillas (Spain) and Master in Administration by the IESE Business School of the University of Navarra (Spain). He started his professional career in the information technology and telecommunications company Telvent (now Schneider Electric) from which he became COO. President and CEO of Abengoa Bioenergy, a leading company in the biofuels sector. He joined the Red Compartida project as COO of Altán Redes. Innovative and results-oriented leader, he is Knight of the National Order to Merit by the French Republic.

About Red Compartida

Red Compartida is one of the most important telecommunications projects of recent years in Mexico. When in April 2018 it starts operating in its first coverage area, Red Compartida will be a modern wholesale, neutral and non-discriminatory mobile broadband network using the 700 MHz band, which will increase the coverage of the most advanced 4G-LTE telecommunications services to at least 92.2% of the Mexican population. Its implementation is through a Public-Private Partnership signed between Altán Redes and the Promotion Agency for Telecommunications Investment (Promtel), which is part of the SCT. The project is fully financed privately.
